Today we had the chance to visit many different sites. The first place we went to was the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. As I walked through the different exhibits I saw a quote that really stuck with me that said, "We will accept the violence and hate, absorbing it without returning it." I think this is really important to keep this in mind as all these moments in the civil rights movement were taking place. It is very hard to not react in such a violent or angry way towards the bad actions given by the non-person of color. No matter how many times they were beaten or abused, they never wanted the same for whites, they never wanted to be better than them, just equal. One of the civil rights activist also said, "It's your day." This made me realize that there time is up. It's now our time to continue to strive to be equal and let there be justice. Whether we are successful or not, we can't give up. Whether we come out of this dead or alive, we can't give up. No matter how tough the battle is, we will never give up.
