The Fire Last Time- Reflections from a Baltimore Thespian on the Civil Rights Movement

1/14/17- Today, I realized information control is key. If you you hide the inequality, everyone assumes that things are fair. We saw the example of a Coke Cola machine that was 5¢ for white people and 10¢ for the colored people and the machine was straddled between a wall so neither side could visibly see the distinction. That's how oppression operates. This means that one of the first jobs of Liberators is to call problematic structures out. If we lack information, we are doomed to never find viable solutions. This means we must be diligent in our studies and always attempt to render the invisible viable.

This job is routinely taken up by thespians for ages. To reveal the invisible qualities of the human experience is essential. We must all engage in this process, in some form, to begin breaking down oppressive walls.
