Hate spreads hate
Today (yesterday?) we hauled our weary selves out of bed at, rubbed the sleep out of our eyes, and loaded up our coach bus and makeshift mobile home and set off for Greensboro. When we arrived at the museum, repurposed from the lunch counter where the first ever sit in was held, we were greeted by one young tour guide who showed us around the museum, and it was amazing. It had horrific memories, as well as triumphant ones, and messages of hope for moving forward. But the one phrase I was struck with was this: hate breeds hate. Following a victory rally held after the tragic passing of 4 young girls in Birmingham church bombing, two white men so hyped up on their disgusting hatred dragged two black boys of their bike, shot and killed them. Of course, these men were horrible people anyways, but their hatred being reinforced, normalized, and even celebrated is what caused this to occur. We have to cut off hatred from its diseased roots. Barring that, we will never know peace.
